LEXINGTON, Ky. - ESPN's hit Saturday morning show, College Gameday covered by State Farm, returns to Rupp Arena on Saturday, Feb. 23rd. Tickets to attend College Gameday will be available starting Wednesday, Feb. 13th at 6:00 p.m., online through Ticketmaster and at Ticketmaster outlets.

GameDay tickets are free of charge and orders will have a minimal service fee attached. There is a limit of eight tickets per household. UK students may pick up a GameDay ticket during the already scheduled student basketball lottery on Feb. 11th or at the Joe Craft Center Ticket office during normal business hours on Feb. 12th or 13th. The Wildcats will host the Missouri Tigers to cap off the full day of activities that evening at 9 p.m. ET.

A special edition, individually numbered UK Basketball poster will be given out to the first 10,000 people through the door.

Tickets to ESPN College Gameday Covered by State Farm are not valid for admission to the UK vs. Missouri basketball game, but to the College Gameday event itself. Doors will open at 8:00 a.m. and the event begins at 9:00 a.m.

Stem cell breakthrough could lead to new bone repair therapies on nanoscale surfaces

Scientists at the University of Southampton have created a new method to generate bone cells which could lead to revolutionary bone repair therapies for people with bone fractures or those who need hip replacement surgery due to osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.

The research, carried out by Dr Emmajayne Kingham at the University of Southampton in collaboration with the University of Glasgow and published in the journal Small, cultured human embryonic stem cells on to the surface of plastic materials and assessed their ability to change.

Scientists were able to use the nanotopographical patterns on the biomedical plastic to manipulate human embryonic stem cells towards bone cells. This was done without any chemical enhancement.

The materials, including the biomedical implantable material polycarbonate plastic, which is a versatile plastic used in things from bullet proof windows to CDs, offer an accessible and cheaper way of culturing human embryonic stem cells and presents new opportunities for future medical research in this area.

Professor Richard Oreffo, who led the University of Southampton team, explains: "To generate bone cells for regenerative medicine and further medical research remains a significant challenge. However we have found that by harnessing surface technologies that allow the generation and ultimately scale up of human embryonic stem cells to skeletal cells, we can aid the tissue engineering process. This is very exciting.

"Our research may offer a whole new approach to skeletal regenerative medicine. The use of nanotopographical patterns could enable new cell culture designs, new device designs, and could herald the development of new bone repair therapies as well as further human stem cell research," Professor Oreffo adds.

The study was funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).

This latest discovery expands on the close collaborative work previously undertaken by the University of Southampton and the University of Glasgow. In 2011 the team successfully used plastic with embossed nanopatterns to grow and spread adult stem cells while keeping their stem cell characteristics; a process which is cheaper and easier to manufacture than previous ways of working.

Dr Nikolaj Gadegaard, Institute of Molecular, Cell and Systems Biology at the University of Glasgow, says: "Our previous collaborative research showed exciting new ways to control mesenchymal stem cell stem cells from the bone marrow of adults growth and differentiation on nanoscale patterns.

"This new Southampton-led discovery shows a totally different stem cell source, embryonic, also respond in a similar manner and this really starts to open this new field of discovery up. With more research impetus, it gives us the hope that we can go on to target a wider variety of degenerative conditions than we originally aspired to. This result is of fundamental significance."

GoDaddy Buys M.dot, A Mobile Website-Building App, To Push Its ...

GoDaddy, the web-hosting and domain registration giant, is taking one more step into the world of mobile, and another into offering small businesses a one-stop shop for all of their online activities with a freemium sweetener. Today, it is announcing the acquisition of M.dot, a startup that has developed an iOS mobile app that lets users create mobile websites from the app itself. Financial terms of the deal were not officially disclosed, but we have heard that the sale was in cash and stock and could be worth anywhere from $5 million to $25 million, likely to be around $15 million ? depending on GoDaddy?s own IPO plans.

This is GoDaddy?s first acquisition under its new CEO Blake Irving, who joined the company in December 2012, having previously held roles as chief product officer at Yahoo and a number of senior roles at Microsoft. The news was announced as GoDaddy opened up new offices in Sunnyvale.

The acquisition is squarely aimed at expanding the kinds of products and services that GoDaddy offers to businesses, going beyond basic domain registration and hosting. In an interview with TechCrunch, Irving said that while GoDaddy expects M.dot to bring it ?a ton of new customers,? GoDaddy also has some 54 million domains under management, ?and a lot of them have asked for mobile help.?

Expanding GoDaddy?s revenue streams is also a key part of what the company needs to impress investors in the event of an IPO (the company is currently privately controlled by KKR, Silverlake Venture Partners and Technology Crossover Ventures).

Irving would not comment on when GoDaddy could or would seek to go public, except to note that ?this is?definitely one of the logical conclusions when you consider GoDaddy?s double-digit revenue and Ebidta growth. I think that it?s something that we definitely will consider but we have no plan for a specific date. The company is well placed to make a decision like that in the next years ? plural.?

Dominik Balogh, who co-founded the company with Pavel Serbajlo, says that M.dot was not looking for an exit this early in the startup?s life. Both Balogh and Serbajlo, as well as three others working on M.dot, will join GoDaddy.

First arriving in Silicon Valley from Europe in hopes of getting into Y Combinator ? it didn?t make the cut in an April 2012 interview ? M.dot opened for business in June 2012. Between then and?October 2012 M.dot?found funding?from investors including Floodgate, SV Angel, Emergence Capital partner Sean Jacobsohn, San Francisco?49ers football star-turned-investor Harris Barton and Archimedes Labs, where TechCrunch co-founder Keith Teare is a partner. M.dot had raised some $700,000 in seed funding.

Mobile is not a new area for GoDaddy: In November 2012, the company launched a website-building product in partnership with DudaMobile, although the primary purpose of that is to help translate a desktop web page into one optimized for mobile. ?But we need to go deeper than that,? Irving said. M.dot?s?unique selling point has been that, while many businesses have gone online, many have not, and creating a site via M.dot will be the first web experience for many of them.

In the words of Balogh, M.dot is aimed at ?the large group of people out there who are hesitant to use a computer but they do have smartphones and use those all day. It?s a very different psychological approach.? So far, some 60,000 businesses have used M.dot?s service.

GoDaddy gives M.dot a chance at much wider distribution, but it gives it something else to target those users with: a customer support system.

?GoDaddy has over 2,000 people in customer support ? that?s a big advantage,? notes Balogh. Prior to this, ?since we were early stage,? Balogh says M.dot didn?t have any dedicated team to help customers with questions or problems.

M.dot had yet to introduce any kind of charging model for its service. Although there are fairly obvious ways to introduce paid elements into M.dot ? say, by adding elements like an e-commerce backend, or giving people the ability to create a native app in addition to a web app ? for now the idea is to keep M.dot as a free product. This is part of a new freemium strategy that GoDaddy is looking to explore, according to Irving.

?There are things we will be able to offer based on M.dot ? more complete packages that we can make available across a variety of other devices,? said Irving. ?What sits in front of the shopping cart that is free and what sits behind the shopping cart is a distinction you will be seeing more from us.? The idea, he says, is to offer users certain services for free and try to entice them to upgrade based on that. It?s a strategy that many other online companies that target the enterprise have taken, from HootSuite to Evernote and Box.

There may not be charging on the cards for M.dot in the coming months, but there will be other developments. There is an Android app in the works to complement the work on iOS. And we may also see enhancements that will let businesses use the M.dot platform to reformat their websites into mobile apps, thereby taking some of the existing DudaMobile work in-house. There is also the question of whether M.dot, a native app itself, will also progress into the area of helping businesses create native apps.

While mobile web has so far been the startup?s first priority, Balogh notes that they have built the business with native apps in mind. ?We?were thinking about apps at the beginning but we decided that mobile sites make more sense at first,? he says. ?In the segment that we are focusing on, when you are a visitor and you are looking for something on Google and you find information it?s not likely that you would download an app. But we have been collecting structurized data so if we decide to turn on a native app function, we can create them with one click. We haven?t closed the door on native apps.?

No date for Valentine's Day? New apps may help

TORONTO (Reuters) - Singles who believe in love at first sight can turn to new apps that will match them with potential dates in time for Valentine's Day, but only if each person has expressed an interest.

With the new dating apps, users simply flip through photos of people in nearby locations and express their interest in dating someone. If there's a mutual attraction, the app connects them for a conversation. If not, their feelings remain anonymous.

"It limits the conversations to people you've actually expressed an interest in. So each of those conversations starts at a very deep level," said Sean Rad, co-founder and CEO of Los Angeles-based company Tinder, which developed the app of the same name.

Makers of the Tinder app, which is available worldwide for iPhone, said it has matched more than 10 million couples since it was launched in September.

The app pulls in member photos of people from Facebook, and then it's as simple as anonymously indicating interest in that person. If both people like each other, messages can be sent between the two users.

Rad said most users are between 18 and 30 years old.

Let's Date, which was released across the United States last week for the iPhone, is a similar app. But rather than simply focusing on the photo, the app provides the person's interests from Facebook for a broader view of the potential date.

"Our goal was to create an app that replicated the real world experience of going to a party or bar full of potentially eligible people," said Sean Suhl, founder of Let's Date.

"You're put into a crowd of people and if someone catches your eye and they catch your eye, then a conversation is struck up and then someone might ask the other person out on a date," he added.

The app resulted from a frustration with other dating apps, according to Suhl, who described them as "artificial and laborious".

"We're just presenting you the daters and you're just saying yes or no," he added.

Both apps require a login with Facebook, so people must use their real identity. Let's Date also stipulates that users must have been active on Facebook for a year, and have at least 50 friends before signing up.

Although the apps can set people up quickly, it still could take a while to find the right person.

"People are literally getting dates the same night, but you might want to give yourself enough time to find the right Valentine," Rad said.

Both companies plan to release Android apps.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 to land in Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G forms

A trio of Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 variants are to be released, latest reports surrounding the heavily rumoured stylus-friendly tablet have suggested.

Widely expected to be heading for an official unveiled at MWC 2013 later this month, latest reports have suggested that a hat-trick of Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 tablets will be launched, with Wi-Fi only, 3G and 4G variants to be made available.

According to leaked product reference numbers, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 will see wannabe owners able to choose from a selection of connectivity options with the Wi-Fi only variant of the 8-inch device (GT-N5100) to line up alongside more costly Wi-Fi plus 3G (GT-N5110), and Wi-Fi plus 3G and 4G counterparts (GT-N5105).

Seemingly set to land alongside the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, the Korean manufacturer has been rumoured to be prepping a revised range of Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 devices, with each 7-inch, 8.9-inch and 10.1-inch option tipped for Wi-Fi only and cellular connectivity renditions.

Former U.S. Navy SEAL to be remembered at Texas service

ARLINGTON, Texas (Reuters) - Thousands of people are expected to gather at Cowboys Stadium on Monday to remember former U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, who was killed at a shooting range by an Iraq War veteran he tried to help.

Kyle, 38, was considered the deadliest sniper in American military history. He served four combat tours of duty in Iraq and elsewhere, and won two Silver Stars and five Bronze Stars for bravery, according to his book "American Sniper," about his military service from 1999 to 2009.

He was shot to death on February 2 at the shooting range at Rough Creek Lodge, an upscale retreat about 50 miles southwest of Fort Worth, Texas.

Monday afternoon's memorial service is being held at the home of the Dallas Cowboys, a stadium in Arlington, Texas that seats 80,000. A funeral procession is scheduled for Tuesday from the Dallas area to Austin, where he is to be buried.

Eddie Routh, 25, is charged with killing Kyle and his close friend and neighbor, Chad Littlefield, at the gun range and then fleeing in Kyle's pickup truck. Kyle and Littlefield took Routh to the shooting range to try to help him relax and deal with personal problems, police have said.

Routh was arrested near his home in the Dallas suburb of Lancaster hours after the shooting at the gun range. He is being held in the Erath County jail on $3 million bail.

After the shooting, Routh drove in Kyle's truck to his sister's home in Midlothian, the same suburb where Kyle and Littlefield lived, and confessed to shooting the two men. In a 911 call to Midlothian police, Routh's sister and her husband tell the dispatcher that Routh suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and had recently been hospitalized in a mental hospital.

After leaving the Navy, Kyle founded Craft International, a company that provided combat and weapons training to military, police, corporate and civilian clients.

Kyle is the co-author of another book, "American Gun - A History of the U.S. in Ten Firearms," which is scheduled to be published in May.
